Readers Theatre develops reading skills in a way that is fun for both students and teachers. Primary reading, circle reading, instant reading, and cooperative reading provide teachers with a reading focus in Readers Theatre. Staged reading, chamber theatre, and story theatre provide teachers with a performance focus in Readers Theatre.
Around the World Through Holidays – Cross-Curricular Readers Theatre, includes scripts for twelve plays (for grades 4-8), adaptable for any of the reading or performance methods of Readers Theatre presentation. Each play introduces children to specific world cultures by looking at holidays celebrated in that culture. Around the World Through Holidays incorporates geography, history, and culture into the Readers Theatre setting. are a set of cultural, historical and/or political statistics about the country of origin, along with an activity to locate the geographical region on a world map.
In addition to literacy and social studies, Around the World Through Holidays incorporates costume and prop ideas for each play as well as a follow-up or preparatory activity incorporating art, math, or vocabulary activities and further augmenting the cross-curricular theater experience. Additionally, Around the World Through Holidays includes suggestions to create a classroom party to celebrate each holiday and further the social studies experience – as well as the fun.
